Vaccinations

Vaccinations are provided at the well-child exams.  We have designed our immunization schedule following the well-child schedule, and follow the guidelines developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control.  Our vaccines have been carefully chosen for their effectiveness in preventing disease.  We use combined vaccines to minimize ‘needle pokes’ when possible.  In some cases, such as for the MMR vaccine, only combined vaccines are available.  None of our vaccines contain thimerosal.

About 4 million deaths worldwide are prevented by childhood vaccinations every year.  Specifically, childhood vaccinations protect against:  tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), rotavirus (gastroenteritis), H. influenza type b disease, pneumococcal diseases (pneumonia, meningitis, ear infections), mumps, measles, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), hepatitis A and hepatitis B, papillomavirus (cervical cancer), meningococcal meningitis, flu and Covid.

Some parents at Turke & Thomashow Pediatrics choose not to vaccinate their children, or choose alternate vaccine schedules.  Vaccine waivers are available for parents that wish to decline vaccinations for their children or adhere to alternate schedules.
