The Teen Years
Annual well-child exams for teenagers provide an important opportunity to evaluate your adolescent’s health. Enormous physical, emotional, and psychological changes occur during puberty. During the comprehensive physical exam, we discuss core health issues ranging from the changes associated with puberty to specific health concerns, including:
- Height, weight, and BMI (body mass index), and body image assessment
- Adolescent-specific immunizations
- Physical fitness and recommendations for sports participation
- Acne, ADD/ADHD, asthma, depression, sports injuries, headaches, menses, and other current health concerns.
- Nutrition and diet
- Behavioral and learning concerns
- Past medical history, family history, and social history
- Psychological and psychiatric concerns
- Long-term health: risk factor identification and modification
These exams are provided on an annual basis in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. These annual exams help us address current health issues and reinforce the importance of regular exercise, healthy eating, and healthy lifestyles for your adolescent.
