Grade School Age
Annual well-child exams for school-aged children are important for evaluating your child’s growth and development. During the comprehensive physical exam, we discuss core health issues ranging from kindergarten readiness to preadolescent development, including:
- Height, weight, and BMI (body mass index) assessment
- Childhood immunizations
- Physical fitness and recommendations for sports participation
- Nutrition
- Behavioral and learning concerns
- Past medical history, family history, and social history
- Current health concerns such as asthma, ADD/ADHD, and frequent colds.
- Psychological and psychiatric concerns
These exams are provided on an annual basis in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. Most children enjoy these longer visits with the doctor, where their individual progress is recognized. Over time, the annual exam also helps us reinforce the importance of regular exercise, healthy eating, and healthy lifestyles for your child.
